Dealer, some chips after this hand.

This is what I had to say on Saturday. The dreaded re-buy at the 1/2 table in The Borgata. The Night started off well with( A warning to all vegans and others with dietary restrictions. Read on at your own risk) a visit to The Old Homestead where I treated myself to an 18oz New York Sirloin cooked medium rare. It was a true masterpiece and I devoured it as I hoped to devour my opponents’ chips later on in the night. I think I should have took notice that this might not hold true for me on this evening when poor Lisa excused herself abruptly to the Ladies Room to vomit our Calamari appetizer. I should have warned her that the Calamari just did not taste right, but I have a stronger stomach, you need one to be a poker player.

After the excellent dinner sans the appetizer I gravitate over to the Poker Room and seat myself at a 1/2 table and begin. In the first hour I get As Qs in the BB. I raise it up to $12 and get 1 caller. Flop comes Qh 5s 3s Great flop, I check, he bets, I check-raise, and he calls. Turn is Qc nice. I bet, he raises I shove it all in. Close to $300 total for me, he is all-in. I have trip Queens with A kicker and nut flush draw. The river comes Ks Yahoooo, nut flush!! Ship it over sir! Oh, wait what did you say? No, say that again, oh, the K filled you up oh, ok, how much do I owe you? Damn, he hits a 3 outer, I lose a buy-in. 6 hours later, and I am still down the same amount. You cannot win them all, but I always try.

Next morning I am playing in the 50+10 w/1 add on MTT at The Borgata. I go deep into the tourney and finish 35 of 130. I had an opportunity to take it down. First place was a little over $4000, but it was not to be my weekend. Towards the end with a good sized stack, I lost a hand when I had my opponent dominated, lost a race, in both pots I had my opponent all-in, and then finished myself off with a short stack when I lost the final coin flip. Cannot keep missing like that and take down a MTT, maybe next time, but it was fun as always. There is no more a pleasurable experience in Poker as when you get down to the final few tables in a tournament. The excitement is high and the stacks are short. People really start to have fun and a big payday could be the culmination of this wonderful experience. For those who have been involved or witnessed it you understand what I am talking about, for everyone else you should give it a shot. You will not be disappointed.

AC again?

No one shows up for my cash game. No problem, Chrissy and I are off to another AC adventure, which evolves into a winning night at The Borgata.

Chrissy and I arrive at The Borgata at 9:00pm and waste no time finding a table with 2 empty seats. Chrissy's second hand is the ever-popular AA and she takes down a big pot due to her opponents smooth calling her bets all the way to the river. This was an omen of things to come for her. She built up her stack to over $600 while I grinded out a living with probably the worst hole cards imaginable. I had 3 raising hands in 6.5 hours, but I stayed patient, saw cheap flops and played mistake free post flop poker.

When Chrissy's stack was close to $700 she had a downswing that brought her back to even while I continued on a steady climb. One of my key hands; there was a raise to $12, a re-raise to $40 and then I look down and see 2 Cowboys staring back at me. The 2 raisers were both on the short stack and I had them both covered so I raised to $105 which would put them both all-in and they obliged my re-raise with calls. After they both called the Loose Ultra Aggressive player from The Bronx a few seats to my right asks me "You have AA or KK right" I say, "yes sir!” He asks another all-in player what do you have and he replies "JJ" he asks the 3rd all-in the same question but gets no reply and starts laughing amusingly while asking, "do you have AK?" Now he is very amused and laughing aloud while the 3rd player is turning a wonderful shade of red. The board is laid out and it does not help the JJ hand, the 3rd player stares at the board and mucks, he held K 10, how I love a calling donk! I take down a big pot.

Towards the end of the night, things start to get interesting. I have doubled my stack and Chrissy is even for the night. I ask her "are you ready to get going" and she said "yes" so we begin to play our final round. The big blind gets to me so I rack up and wait for the BB to get to Chrissy. On one of her final hands she is in early position and raises to $11, she gets 2 callers. The first is a continuous talker who likes to gamble and the second I will call The Internet Kid. The Internet Kid is a Tight Aggressive player who has played mistake free poker all night and is big stack at the table with about $800 behind. He plays on the internet at stakes higher than me for which I give him credit because I find that the play online is of a higher caliber than live. The flop comes Q J 9. The talker bets $30, The Internet Kid smooth calls, Chrissy raises to $100. I am now thinking that I am proud of the big raise, a raise the size that I have made earlier on 2 occasions for positive results. The talker folds while saying something irrelevant. The Internet Kid begins to think, taking his time trying to replay the hand in his mind and then declares all-in! Now the fun begins. I feel that the trap has been sprung and Chrissy will now insta-call and show her monster, but after 5 seconds I see that this is not the case. My stomach tightens up, heart begins racing as I stare ahead not making eye contact with any player at the table. A full minute goes by. I am having a more physical response to this hand than to any one of my hands that I played the entire evening. I come to the realization that Chrissy is behind. The Internet Kid has not made a misplay all night. Every time he had gotten his money in the middle the pot was pushed to him, and I believed this time would be no different. I think back to a few short hours ago when Chrissy was sitting on a stack close to $700 and now she was facing the prospect of finishing for a full stack loss. I send out my psychic waves that were going something like this FOLD, FOLD, FOLD NOW!!!!! It seems that I was not directing theses messages correctly or her receptors had gone haywire because she calls!! OH NOOOO. I know that when The Internet Kid Flips his cards it will be a monster and it is JJ giving him middle set. Chrissy flips over J 10 giving her an open ender with 8 outs. 8 cards in the deck to give her a winning night, 37 cards will leave her broke. I am flabbergasted and begin to call upon the Poker Gods to right this wrong. The turn is 6. I make one more attempt to contact the almighty ones amongst a sea of other players in the Borgata. Will the great ones heed my plea? The river is the miracle 8. The table erupts into that sound that people who play in Poker rooms are very familiar with. The groans and squeals of excitement that accompany a Grand Suck out. Praise the Poker Gods, All Hail for they prove merciful tonight and Chrissy pulls the $622 pot!

I quickly scour the area for racks, find 2 under a vacant table, place them in front of Chrissy’s stack, and prepare for our exit from my beloved city of Atlantic, both of us having more than doubled our max buy-in stacks.
